Chiropractic Made Me Better
I had always thought Chiropractic was just for back pain and neck pain. Most of our initial experience with Chiropractic occurs after a car accident, and mine wasn’t any different. When I was a teenager in high school, my father, brother, and I were involved in an auto accident, which led us to visit a chiropractor.
Now, I wasn’t feeling any pain after the accident, I didn’t have a stiff neck or low back pain, and overall, I felt about the same as I did prior to the accident, so, I had no idea how Chiropractic was going to make me any better. But, after the adjustments, I did feel better! My body felt more at ease, I had greater mobility, and even the street lights twinkled brighter in my eyes. If I had thought that I was at 100% prior to seeing the chiropractor, then I must have felt at least 25% better after seeing the chiropractor. But how can you be better when you’re already feeling your best? That was my first experience with Chiropractic, and my destiny with Chiropractic was set.
I grew up in a small town in central California called Tulare. The town is mostly farming and agricultural, with lots of dairy farms and orchards, and throughout my childhood, I had asthma and food allergies that I had to “deal” with. It wasn’t until I did a Chiropractic internship in college where I was informed of the connection between the spine, the nervous system, and the organs of the body. The chiropractor asked if I had breathing difficulties after palpating my mid-back, and I was amazed that he was able to detect that I did, as I hadn’t told him that I had asthma. He had told me that chiropractic can help free up the nerves to my lungs and the joints of my ribcage, allowing for better mobility and function. My image of Chiropractic was changing right before my eyes.
Chiropractic Is Far More Than Masking Symptoms
At Chiropractic college, we were given the story of the first Chiropractic adjustment, and again, to my amazement, it wasn’t for neck or back pain. D.D. Palmer adjusted Harvey Lillard and his hearing was restored! To hear this story and to have the experiences that I’ve had with Chiropractic just makes me more optimistic that Chiropractic is more than just masking symptoms and actually restoring normal body functions.
I earned my Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of California, Davis in 2002, and in 2009, I received my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life Chiropractic College West. I am an avid sports fan and am thrilled to be living in a wonderful city with professional soccer, football, baseball, women’s basketball, and college sports as well.
